Dreaming Of Peru

A new year brings so much promise, doesn’t it? New year, new you… January practically smells like sunshine and opportunity.

I’m not much for new year’s resolutions myself… I have the most rubbery arm this side of Warner Bros. cartoon, so I figure if I don’t make ’em, I can’t break ’em. But I do make one each and every year – and that’s to travel. Travel more, travel often, travel well.

I dare say I’m not the only one, because more holidays are booked in January than any other month. There really is nothing like back-to-work to leave you yearning for far-off places.

And at the top of my travel list for 2015 is Peru. A more chromatic country surely doesn’t exist!

In fact, the whole of South America is still an empty box on my to-tick-off list, but Peru most of all. The artistry, the pageantry, the adventure, the food. There’s so much I want to get up on the grill of.

I mean, did you know it’s traditional to gift and wear yellow underwear on NYE in Peru? And inside out at that? I have no idea why but I can’t wait to find out.

Also, the pisco sour is their national drink. Amazeballs! If you haven’t had one before, do yourself a favour. Pisco brandy, lemons, sugar water, egg whites, ice and bitters: it’s like there’s a party in your glass and everyone’s invited.

So let these photos be your inspiration too. The images alone practically assault the senses, imagine what the real deal is going to do. Just be overwhelmingly blissful, I imagine.

At the end of the day, any place that encourages colour, outlandish hats and the carrying of baby goats in equal measure is alright by me.

What’s on your travel bucket list for 2015?
