It’s far from a well-kept secret that I really, really like throwing parties. Dinner parties most of all. There’s just something about a group of people sharing food around a table which is so incredibly glorious and humbling. Get the right group of people together and it’s an almost spiritual experience. So when it came time to throw a launch party, I wanted to take it up a notch. And then add some hand-churned butter. Just for good measure.

Cointreau were hip to the idea so I partnered with them to throw my ultimate soiree, butter and all. Friends, food and finery. It was everything I ever wanted in a sultry Sunday afternoon.

To give it a real Down-Under feel, I had Australian singer/songwriter John Vella serenade us with some tunes while local chef Brendan Cato from The Farmed Table whipped up some canapes and share plates (not to mention the aforementioned buttery goodness). And to top it all off, the delightful Eden from Sydney-based Glazed Doughnuts custom-made me some Cointreau-glazed ‘nuts which I sandwiched around vanilla gelato from Messina to create DESSERT BURGERS. I use shout-y capitals here because, well… DESSERT BURGERS! It’s fair to say they were welcomed wholeheartedly when the sun went down.

Guests had a ball mixing their own Cointreau Fizz cocktails and I had a ball with table settings and festoon lighting. Honestly, if festoon lighting was a man it would surely be Johnny Depp… Everyone loves JD. He’s ageless and peerless and illuminates a room.

…but enough about that. Ahem. Back to the party.

Held at a friend’s private residence in Bondi, I used Falcon enamelware from Odgers & McClelland Exchange Stores to give the table settings a picnic-y zest, as well as Ikea textiles and Laguiole cutlery to complete the look. Mussel shells were used as place cards to give the whole thing a salt-water vibe.

The handful of friends and media pals in attendance really helped make the whole thing a breeze. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to push out of the nest if Channing Tatum himself had served the dessert burgers on his abs. No fooling.
